This sounds most consistent with a reactive arthritis from trauma. It usually goes away in 5 to 14 days. It usually has no lasting residual problems associated with it. If it persists beyond that point in time, it could be a ganglion cyst. You would only need to see a hand surgeon if it remains troubling and persistent.
