Fracture?: For this type of injury to the finger of your daughter, I would recommend an x-ray to evaluate any fracture in the bones of her finger. An avulsion fracture is common injury for nine-year-old girls. An appointment with pediatrician after x-rays completed would be beneficial. Placement of a rigid finger splint and comfort measures would help relieve her symptoms. If fracture, appt. w/orthopedic.

You need to take: her to see a pediatric orthopedist to make sure the blood/nerve supply to the finger is still intact. A severe injury may rupture the tendon and completely avulse it from the joint, along with the blood and nerve supply to it. Otherwise bruising from the injury may need more time to go away.
