Many possible injuries with fall on outstretched wrist/hand. Possible fracture of the scaphoid or distal radius, potential for ligament injuries or triangular fibrocartilage tear. Evaluation should include exam by hand surgeon and possible xrays and mri.

It could be a sprain or soft tissue in nature. It may heal on it's own. If it is a fracture, it typically takes 6-12 weeks for bones to heal. Depends on the injury, and evaluation likely needed to determine the injury.
