I had bilateral si injections under fluoroscopy, which seemed to be done really quickly. the doctor was only in the room for a few minutes, and both injections (including numbing) took maybe a minute or so total. is this how long it normally takes?

Would guess you underwent transforaminal epidural steroid injections bilaterally at S-1. Gather that the doctor was both efficient and proficient. Hope it helped.

If it was literally 60 seconds, it is unlikely he/she actually placed the needles in the joint spaces. That takes a couple minutes (each) of adjusting the needle and checking position with the fluoroscope after each change in position. Then to confirm intraarticular (within the joint) placement of the needle tip, contrast is injected to confirm filling of the joint space. Those images are saved
