"Rare" bacteria indicates that the small amount of bacteria detected on urine test was most likely a contaminant, rather than a urinary tract infection (UTI). There are other parameters in a urine test that are used to determine if a UTI is present, including leukocyte esterase, nitrites, and white blood cells. These values are combined with the clinical signs and symptoms one may or may not have.
