I am not constipated nor have diarrhea. my stool is usually smooth and long. it is typically various shades of brown. however a lot of time when i wipe the color is yellow on the toilet paper. is this something that is concerning?

no. Yellow is one of the many shades poop will go through . They range from an intense green through yellows to shades of brown based on the action of gut germ action during transit. It has no other significance.
