A member asked:

My baby is 3 months old, has clonus both in her sleep and awake but seems to be dissipating over time,it used to happen all the time now i cant seem to be able to illicit it every time and is not happening involuntarily anymore at all,is it normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ankle clonus is a sign of an immature nervous system in infants under a year of age. It fades gradually as nerves mature and is seldom present when they start to stand/walk. Similar tremulous movements in various sleep/wake states are common in early infancy, again as a sign of immature nerve function.
