1997 Study-Clonus: Here is a summary of a US Library of Medicine published study on the topic: Study designed to evaluate outcomes of clonus in 1st year of life (169 infants). 57% were normal, while the remainder eventually developed cerebral palsy, mental retardation, motor delays, low IQ. IMMATURE NERVOUS SYS: Ankle clonus at this age is expected and felt to represent the normal immature nervous system. As the head to toe progression of nerve maturity continues, it is less often found in normal kids by a year and disappears as the kid pulls to stand,cruises and walks.
