A member asked:

How much and for how long steroids are given before, during and after a total knee replacement surgery (both knees)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

This is a somewhat controversial issue. Some advocate low dose steroids and others prefer high dose steroids during surgery or in the immediate postop period to reduce discomfort and expedite recovery. It should only be a sort term treatment consisting of a single dose. Postop infection, poor wound healing are potential concerns.
