I have resistance to ciprofloxacin when i tested for urinalysis culture. now i have a problem with my eye and the doctor gave me cipro ointment. can i still use it even if i had resistance tested for my urine before?

Bacteria which usually cause eye infection are different from the urinary pathogen. E. coli is the most common pathogen which causes UTI and it is quite resistant to Cipro nowadays; however, E. coli is not the common pathogen which causes eye infection. You can use Cipro for at least 3 days then if there is no improvement your doctor may change it.

Agree with Dr. Le. You are not resistant to Cipro, your urinary bacteria were resistant, organisms in the eye are likely be different. Wish you good health!
