My recent cholesterol report after fasting is as follows: chol/hdlc ratio = 2.9, cholesterol total = 257, non hdl cholesterol = 168, triglycerides = 43, hdl cholesterol = 89, and ldl cholesterol = 155. how good or bad is this? any suggestions?

The total chol/HDL ratio is considered "optimal" at 3.5. Above "5" is considered a high risk for cardiovascular disease. HDL of 89 is excellent, but the total cholesterol can be improved, and LDL should be below 100. Triglycerides is good at 43. Increase fiber, lower red meat, butter. Keep exercise a priority (increases HDL). See a cardiologist for a detailed summary and guidance.

Agree with Dr. Berryman. You need to reduce total cholesterol and particularly LDL, If you are overweight, losing weight is imperative. Reduce intake of saturated fats and carbohydrates. For nutrition: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/ Exercise at least 30 minutes each day. Wish you good health!
