A member asked:

When you have surgery, do they have medicine readily available if you were to have a blood clot? either during or after? if not, why? i know when i had surgery, they used these compressions pads on my legs, is that the best technique prevention?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, there are several blood thinners available to use for clot prevention that are commonly used post-operatively. Additionally there are meds that can be administered inside the vessel directly at the site of an identified blood clot to dissolve it. Compression pads are used to keep blood from sitting stagnate which could result in clots.
