A member asked:

One of my friend's father has an enlarged liver and his platelet count is 70,000. what can cause this kind of condition?

Low platelet counts are the result of decreased production or increased destruction/use. Potential causes are numerous and could be related to the enlarged liver or be totally separate. Proper evaluation and testing must be done to find a cause.

It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. Liver cirrhosis is a possibility, It would be prudent to see a doctor. Wish you good health!
