Peat moss is a type of plant containing a high amount of fiber with very little nutritional value. Humans don't have the right bacteria to degrade these fibers, so they pass through the intestines and may cause gas, bloating and infection with any contaminants. Eating it might cause a feeling of fullness which would decrease the urge to eat other things. Regular fiber supplements would do the same
