I have been taking doxycycline for about 1 1/2 weeks for acne. my red inflammatory acne is pretty much flat now, and not raised. but i still have marks. are these still acne? or just acne scars? can i stop prescription. getting headaches?

If one is having adverse reaction to a medication, in this case if the headache is truly a side effect of the doxycycline, one should stop it and then see the PCP for review and alternative if still needed.

The red areas might be some residual scars. I would see a dermatologist for continued management of the problem. I would also suggest tapering the doxy and add a benzoyl peroxide cream as well as a mild retinoid cream. These top meds would remain while the oral doxy was eventually discontinued. Not uncommonly, in females in your age group, the acne is triggered by hormones.
