A member asked:

I have a very shallow and minor cut on my finger(no blood, or redness, and barely visible). can i contract rabies if saliva from a rabid animal got in this type of cut? i feel like it came into contact with a possibly contaminated chain, i held?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Integument (skin) is a barrier against infection, but even a "shallow cut" allows for possible transmission of disease. If you have a known source of proven rabies on the chain described, check with your physician for guidance and testing.
