A member asked:

I'm pregnant and have terrible heartburn that i had before getting pregnant. prilosec is the only thing that helps. is it safe to take longer than 14 days? i'm 22 weeks pregnant?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I would avoid ppi's like omeprazole during the first 4 weeks of pregnancy. You could try liquid antacids which coat the esophagus instead. After using omeprazole for a few weeks you could switch to famotidine which is considered safe in pregnancy. Avoid caffeine, large meals, fatty&spicy foods. It's advisable to run all these recommendations by your obstetrician to make sure he/she agrees with them
