Losing weight is imperative. Hypertension is just one of the harmful side effects of obesity, others being diabetes, gallbladder disease, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, obstructive sleep apnea, to mention a few. Joining a support group like weight watchers may help.

Would not overreact on an isolated possibly inaccurate blood pressure reading. Start working on your weight, watch your diet and check your blood pressure whenever possible. Best treatment is losing weight now. If blood pressure remains high in different circumstances revisit with your doc.
