A member asked:

Is it possible for a brain tumor not to show up on mri's? my aunt and uncle both had brain tumors so it might run in my family, i also get bad headaches more when i wake up, im going to ask to see a neurologist, this has happened for months now. why?

A MRI is a sensitive study that can detect many issues. It is seldom indicated for simple headaches, and a normal MRI does not 100% exclude a brain tumor. There is always the day before someone gets appendicitis and there will be people who drop dead of a heart attach a week after a normal checkup. Getting a good exam and any testing that the physician decides is worth doing is appropriate.
