Sometimes a hairline fracture is missed on X-rays. If pain persists, other tests (including MRI and bone scan) can determine if a fracture was missed. Tapping on the fractured bone can help confirm a fracture; it would be painful. It's best to see an orthopedic surgeon for this.

Pain and instability of the wrist are classic symptoms of TFCC injury. I feel an MRI of your wrist would be the next study especially in view of associated swelling and the negative X-Ray.. Your orthopedic surgeon or hand specialist can advise you best, however.
