People with HSV2 have roughly double risk of acquiring HIV sexually, but the risk is associated with positive blood test, regardless of recognized oubreaks or where they occur. Double risk sounds like a lot, but usually is not. For example, if a woman has HIV, the average transmission risk for one episode of vaginal sex becomes 1 in 2,500. Double that is 1 in 1,250 -- still unlikely for each event
