A chemical conjunctivitis can occur with many irritants, and these can cause corneal/conjunctival irritation. Use artificial tears to soothe the eyes. Most chemicals do not penetrate the inside of the eye so permanent damage is not likely, but see an ophthalmologist to exclude other causes of red eyes.
