If there's no swelling the toe probably wasn't broken. A sprain is more likely. Bruises would suggest a torn ligament. If the pain or tenderness doesn't gradually improve consult a podiatrist for diagnosis&treatment. In the meantime wear comfortable footwear,apply alternating cold &hot applications,elevate the foot when you can. Anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen or naproxen could help.

You may have hurt some soft tissue or even damaged a bone. Please see your doc so that the bone does not heal out of alignment if the latter is the case. Peace and good health.

You may or may not have a small fracture or even trauma to a tendon. Worthwhile to X-ray to exclude misalignment, which would need to be addressed. Agree with podiatric consult. Heed the suggestions provided herein on HT, at this point.
