Upper urinary tract stone can cause flank or back discomfort but it does not cause frequency (voiding more than usual). If there is no dysuria (pain with voiding) or no change in urine color, urinary tract infection is also less likely. Drink well for the next 24 hours, see a doctor if discomfort becomes pain or you have other associated symptoms such as fever, dysuria or change in urine color.
