A member asked:

The stomach is divided into 4 regions. if a random biopsy is taken from the body of the stomach, is there a way to notate/document what part of area of the body of the stomach the sample was taken from?

Yes, this is done routinely with biopsies so the pathologist knows which region of the stomach the biopsy is taken from. Each area looks different microscopically.

Agree with Dr. L. An approximate location of the biopsy should be recorded. If the pathologist finds an abnormality in a tissue, having an idea of the location of the lesion would facilitate repeat examination of the area. Wish you good health!
