Strep Throat is usually caused by Group A Strep (Streptococcus Pyogenes). Some people definitely can be more prone to getting these infections. Your doctor can perform a throat swab and culture for diagnosis. Treatment with Penicillin based antibiotics is generally recommended. It's possible that your new partner may carry the bacteria and not be aware, though I can't say this with certainty.
