The only way I..: ...Know of is to avoid contact with an infected person. People who have had their tonsils out are less likely to get strep throat, but it still happens.

Hand Washing: Avoid individuals with known strep infections. Wash hands frequently, especially when around children and during cold season. Control chronic allergy symptoms. If you have frequent or chronic throat infections, consider seeing eat, nose & throat specialist to evaluate.
