A member asked:

I am having periods whilst on the drug decapeptyl & my gp was concerned. i attended the gynaecologist yesterday and he took a biopsy of my womb. what is he looking for?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Regular use of decapeptyl will generally stop menstruation, as it will stop release of GnRH a hormone responsible for stimulation of hormone production. Bleeding episodes while on decapeptyl may not represent true "periods" but just withdrawal bleeding from a thickened endometrial lining. A gyn provider is obtaining tissue to check for potential malignancy.
