First and maybe most important, a rash is never the only symptom of a new HIV infection. If you don't also have sore throat, fever, or enlarged lymph nodes, you can be quite sure the rash isn't due to HIV. Also, the typical appearance isn't at all ike you describe: typically it's painless, non-itch red spots mostly on the trunk. Regardless of symptoms, have an HIV blood test if possibly at risk.
