An amputation is defined as the removal of a limb or digit by trauma, illness or surgery. If you have accidentally amputated a part of your body, you will need to see a Dr to tie up the ends of blood vessels, attach the tendons to the end of the bone and bring skin flaps around the end to the stump. If your surgical amputation is not healing well, you need to follow up with your Dr.

Assuming the amputation was for arterial insufficiency, failure of the wound to close may indicate poor blood supply to the amputation margin. This should be evaluated by the surgeon as the wound may need to be revised.
