Not likely!: Xanax (alprazolam): classified as a minor tranquilizer; often relieves anxiety, muscle spasm and insomnia. First, your physician must rule out cardiac and musculoskeletal etiologies for your chest pain. At 39, assuming no strong family history for early cardiac disease, and generally good physical health, "anxiety" is possibly undertreated in your case- and, yes, it can worsen if you focus on it!
