Azithromycin often irritates the stomach and intestines and likely caused the nausea and diarrhea, but not but rapid heart beat. That may have been from stress or anxiety from the nausea and diarrhea. Don't stop taking it: the next 4 doses (250 mg) are half the size of the first (500 mg) and probably won't be a problem. Taking it with food also will help. Good luck.
