A member asked:

Is degenerative disk disease on the lumbar region caused by sedentarism or sitting for too long? i am almost 37 years old?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Degenerative disc changes are secondary to wear and tear, and primarily a consequence of our erect posture and the gravitational forces upon the lower back area. Theoretically, a complete existence in a supine position could curtail such changes, but would find such a cure to be far worse than the disorder.
