Disc bulges are a normal part of the aging process. They are from wear and tear. Our discs lose water content as we age and can bulge. If there's no nerve compression, there's really nothing to do. An xray can show you if you have any curvature of your cervical spine.

A "bulging disc" is a sign of minimal disruption and usually an asymptomatic coincidental finding of no significance. It does not appear that a "surgical" situation is apparent. If you did have a fully ruptured disc, many of these do desiccate and shrink if given time, about 9-10 months, if no further injury.
