There is currently no data on the safety of the Covid Vaccine in a patient with ADEM. In general, patients with autoimmune disorders should take the vaccine only when not in a flareup period. Talk to your Neurologist for their evaluation of your risk (which is dependent on your specific history). Remember that your risk of complications with the disease is likely much higher than with the vaccine.

Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis affects brain and spinal cord in children, and most achieve full recovery without future attacks. Sometimes follows a viral infection, and can be associated with some vaccines, but relationships are unclear. There should be no contraindication for COVID-19 vaccine once the disease is in remission, and it is unlikely that an exacerbation would occur.
