1 year olds gums near where molar is supposed to be is swollen. she only has 5 teeth so far. why are back gums swollen & she seems to be fussy?

The 1 year molars generally come in between 1 and 2 years of age, even if the front teeth have not all come in yet. So that is probably what you are seeing. You may see the teeth break through in the next few weeks although it could take longer. If she seems sick in any other way, please call her doctor.

Another form of teething. Back teeth are starting to come in, irritating the overlying gum tissues. Try light brushing with tooth brush (without toothpaste), cold teething toys, cold compresses for pain. Cold food and even ice chips may help. Tylenol or Motrin syrups can be used if you follow instructions strictly and do not over dose.
