If you have a wart, it is related to HPV, but not all "bumps" are warts. The concern is whether this leads to cancer in the future (or current). It is easy for the dentist to tell you if it is a wart, but cannot 100% confirm the wart to be "nothing to worry about (for now)" or not. Regular cancer screening is helpful, and your dentist may remove it for lab test to further evaluate the wart.

Yes they do have a different appearance. There are oral salivary tests for HPV if you want to rule that out. Most oral lesions are domelike, HPV has more texture to it
