A member asked:

My dad got diagnosed with portal hypertension in 2016 and he got a doppler ultrasound done recently (after a year). the ultrasound results are the same as last time except that his gallbladder wall is thickened (5.3 mm). is this a cause of concern?

Thickening of the wall of the gallbladder usually means chronic cholecystitis, although an incompletely full or dilated gallbladder can give a similar appearance. He should have a nuclear gallbladder test with injection to determine gallbladder function. If function is abnormally low, he may be symptomatic with gallbladder disease.
