I thought the covid-19 vaccines prevents death, and makes the illness mild? there seems to be cases where it isnt preventing death?

No vaccine is ever 100% in anything. The data we have suggest 95+% are protected but some will have an immune system that does not develop immunity after the vaccine. Some covid deaths were in patients who got it in the first week after the vaccine when little immunity is present. It may not protect everyone but it is amazing how well it works & was developed in record time.
