You only can tell by experience. Yes, stress could be on top of the list as the cause of constipation. I still remember when I was escaping from my country by boat (we were called "boat people" in the 70s of the 20th century when communist took over South Vietnam), I do not have a bowel movement for 5 days and those are the most stressful days of my life.

Stress & anxiety can have major effects on intestinal function, from Constipation to diarrhea to various types of pain. But usually the only way to be sure is to rule out other causes like thyroid problems, some type of intestinal blockage, medication side effect, etc. Drinking lots of water & adding fiber to the diet can help.
