A 25-year-old female asked about a 62-year-old male:

mri shows i tore acl, lateral meniscus root, mcl, and small impaction fracture of lateral tibial plateau. won't see a surgeon for another week. is it safe to walk around with a brace with no crutches or will it make my knee worse?

I would strongly recommend non-weight bearing until the surgeon evaluates the knee. The tibial plateau fracture could get worse by putting weight on it. So, either crutches and non-weight bearing or a wheelchair. The surgeon will then recommend the best treatment. Good luck-feel better soon!!

I would limit weightbearing as much as you can with crutches. However, you do want to do range of motion to your knee so it does not get stiff.

Yes: I assume you are talking of disc surgery, which the nerve involved. We have to consider two things. How chronic the painwas? How much the nerve injury is? It may take days? Few weeks? It may have residual pain for long time?

Temporarily: (obviously more information needed) how long ago did you quit drinking, and how much were you drinking? Overall stopping drinking is good for your health, but there are acute withdrawal symptoms, as your body adjusts. Think back how you felt any given morning after a drunk night. Not so good probably, symptoms would be relieved by alcohol's putting you back in semi-stupor. Break that cycle!

I have just had back surgery to take pressure off my nerves 3 days ago. Is it normal to have muscle pain in your leg while it heals?

Yes: It can be normal to have some residual pain in the lower extremity after back surgery. You should notice less intensity in the pain and hopefully less numbness, tingling, weakness, etc. If you notice worsening pain, and changes in bowel/bladder function, worsening numbness/tingling, or other issues, please contact your surgeon.
