The way vaccines work is that they produce an immune response to a specific illness, so that when you are infected again, your body recognizes the virus and kills it off easier. A person vaccinated against Covid-19 can still get a mild or asymptomatic infection and may still be able to spread this to others. (studies are just now being conducted on this.)
