Metformin is a medication usually administered by prescription to type 2 diabetics. PCOS is a disease involving prolonged delays or absent ovulation. To reduce cyst formation, and preserve fertility as well as minimize risks of abnormal endometrial tissue (by sustained estrogen stimulation by the ovary) the treatment is by use of low dose combination bcp's. Speak with your gyn provider.

PCOS is a complex disease. And treatment varies by weighing everything going on. I am not certain what you mean by “eases things a little “ Go to uptodate.com and read The patient information called The BASICS regarding PCOS. Then discuss more with your Dr.
