3 year old with a dry barkl-like cough it came on very suddenly. last time he had this they gave him a steroid through an nebuliser (at the er). i have a nebuliser now, but need a script for the medicine?

This might be croup or not. Treatment may be necessary or not. As infants grow older there is less need to treat the issue because airways are growing larger. This site does not provide scripts/notes/referral documents or other direct care. If this issue spokes you contact the kids doc.

Agree with doctor that treatment with medication may not be needed this time. That doesn't mean there's nothing you can do. Talke child in bathroom with shower, close door and turn on shower on hot and sit in the steam for 15-20 minutes. You should also run a humidifier next to the child. Croup is also worse at night, and cough can last a couple of weeks, but gets a little better each night.

An evaluation is indicated. The sudden onset is concerning. If there is a possible allergic reaction, further testing to identify the cause should be discussed. Record the cough and discuss with acute care.
