Agree with doctor that treatment with medication may not be needed this time. That doesn't mean there's nothing you can do. Talke child in bathroom with shower, close door and turn on shower on hot and sit in the steam for 15-20 minutes. You should also run a humidifier next to the child. Croup is also worse at night, and cough can last a couple of weeks, but gets a little better each night.

An evaluation is indicated. The sudden onset is concerning. If there is a possible allergic reaction, further testing to identify the cause should be discussed. Record the cough and discuss with acute care.
