Depends: Hi. Prednisone is not a cough suppressant, and will most assuredly whack his diabetes control. Coughing may result from asthma and COPD, so if the cough is a result of such conditions, prednisone may be helpful and worth taking. If he's having difficulty breathing, he needs close medical attention. If he has fever (or pneumonia), prednisone is not the treatment unless also treating reactive airway
