A member asked:

What are some general reasons why i'm having issues swallowing, and what are the side effects of prolonged use of nexium (esomeprazole)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Spasm and polyps: Anything that can irritate the lining of the esophagus can lead to increase in the tone of the esophagus and difficulty swallowing. Plus if you choke once you are more like to conitinue to choke. Nexium (esomeprazole) can so signifantly reduce the acid, so that the stomach lining becomes thick enough to fill with polyps.
