A member asked:

I need to know if pepcid and nexium (esomeprazole) are one in the same. have difficulty swallowing- is pepcid available in liquid form? is it covered by medicare?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not the same: Pepcid is a H2 blocker, nexium (esomeprazole) is a proton-pump inhibitor. Either should work for GERD. You should call the 800 number on your pharmacy card to ask about coverage. Since they are both now OTC it is less likely they will be covered. Nexium (esomeprazole) comes as "granules" that can be dissolved in fluid.
