Studies show that patients using ppi's had higher fecal calprotectin levels than patients not using them. In inflammatory bowel disease, fecal calprotectin levels rise and fall according to the degree of inflammation going on. I wouldn't expect ppi's to lower inflammatory activity in ulcerative colitis but can when Crohn's disease affects the stomach or duodenum which would then lower calprotectin
