A member asked:

I had 9 negative pregnancy tests and trans-abdominal ultrasound at 10 weeks. i have a retroverted uterus and i'm wondering if the gyneac could have not detected pregnancy. said shape of uterus - was normal. can retroverted uterus miss detection?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Assuming U/S was done "at 10 weeks" after a missed period, the most likely reason is a delay in ovulation, which causes consequent delay in menstruation. To be certain about pregnancy, obtain a serum HCG test. It is unlikely for a retroverted uterus to cause an error in ultrasound for a pregnancy of greater than 3-4 weeks post conception.
