I enjoy good physical/mental health. last night, while sleeping at normal room temperature and very comfortably in a straight position i was abruptly awaken by a painless freezing sensation spreading inside the back of my brain. what could explain it?

Brain freezing sensation is a first for me. I would suggest you see your primary care doctor who can take some time, maybe in a few visits to figure this out. Best of health
